Position Overview:
The Steve Rummler HOPE Network (SRHN) is seeking an experienced, visionary leader to serve as our next Executive Director. This is an extraordinary opportunity to lead a well-respected organization dedicated to overdose prevention, harm reduction, and supporting communities impacted by substance use.
The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall vision, direction, and leadership of SRHN. This includes program development, staff leadership, fiscal management, community relations, and resource development. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of nonprofit leadership, deep commitment to SRHN’s mission, and the ability to build partnerships, secure resources, and inspire staff, board, and community stakeholders.
About SRHN:
The Steve Rummler HOPE Network (SRHN) is a statewide leader in overdose prevention, harm reduction, and public health advocacy. We save lives by increasing access to resources through our innovative Naloxone Access Point (NAP) program and by providing free, accessible overdose response training to communities across Minnesota.
Our work goes beyond direct services—we educate to reduce stigma, empower people with harm reduction tools, and influence policy to create systemic change. SRHN has played a pivotal role in landmark legislation and continues to drive solutions that address the opioid crisis in Minnesota and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Board Management
- Provide vision, leadership, and strategic guidance to advance SRHN's mission and ensure organizational sustainability.
- Lead strategic planning with the Board of Directors, setting short- and long-term goals.
- Monitor and evaluate progress toward strategic objectives, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Partner with the Board to establish policies, priorities, and governance best practices.
- Keep the Board informed of significant developments, challenges, and opportunities.
- Support Board recruitment, training, and engagement to strengthen governance and fundraising capacity.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
- Provide clear direction and measurable goals for staff while encouraging professional growth.
- Ensure all programs are delivered effectively, meet quality standards, and are aligned with community needs.
- Identify opportunities to expand or adapt programs in response to emerging trends or challenges.
- Develop and manage the annual budget
- Maintain sound financial controls and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Secure diverse funding sources, including grants, donations, sponsorships, and earned revenue.
- Oversee all fundraising activities, including donor cultivation, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, and events.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners
- Serve as the chief spokesperson for SRHN, effectively communicating our mission, programs, and impact.
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, community leaders, and the media.
- Advocate for policies and funding that address the opioid crisis and support harm reduction.
- Foster partnerships with community organizations, coalitions, and networks to strengthen impact.
- Represent SRHN at public events, conferences, and meetings to build visibility and influence.
- Ensure community input is valued and reflected in organizational decision-making.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- At least 4 years of senior leadership or executive experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, manage staff, and foster a positive organizational culture.
- Demonstrated success in budgeting, financial management, and securing diverse funding streams (grants, donations, sponsorships).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with nonprofit tools such as CRM databases or project management software.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public administration, business administration, nonprofit management, or related field.
- Experience in public health, harm reduction, recovery or substance use disorder.
- Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000 annually (commensurate with experience).
- Paid time off: 4 weeks PTO, 8 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays.
- Health coverage: 75% of health, vision, and dental insurance costs covered.
