Position Summary
The Executive Director provides strategic, financial, and operational leadership for the East Side Neighborhood Development Company (ESNDC). In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director advances ESNDC’s mission to create wealth, opportunity, and prosperity for the residents and businesses on St. Paul’s East Side through community engagement, healthy housing initiatives, and economic development programs.
The Executive Director is present to connect, lead, inspire, and actively engage staff, ensure program effectiveness, manage finances, cultivate partnerships, and actively demonstrate the strength of ESNDC in the community.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Board & Organizational Leadership
· Collaborate and communicate with the Board of Directors to implement organizational goals, policies, and resolutions and to achieve the mission outcomes and community impact.
· Maintain a healthy balance and a strategic partnership with the board.
· Provide timely, accurate information and strategic recommendations to support Board decision-making.
· Support Board recruitment, development, and governance effectiveness.
· Lead the implementation of ESNDC’s strategic plan across all programs and operations.
· Create and give clear directions and expectations in alignment with the strategic plan.
Fundraising, Revenue Development & Grants
· Secure funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources to support ESNDC’s mission.
· Lead the development and ethical management of grants, contracts, and other income producing activities in partnership with program directors.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with funders and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements.
· Assertively identify and pursue new sources of revenue and funding to reflect the conditions of the economic state.
Program Oversight & Impact
· Direct ESNDC’s economic development, healthy housing programs, and community engagement.
· Ensure program outcomes, effectiveness, and alignment with strategic goals through regular evaluation and data-driven decision making.
· Supervise administrative staff, Program Coordinators, Program Managers, and contractors.
· Promote a collaborative, supportive, and culturally responsive work environment.
Financial & Operational Management
· Oversee ESNDC’s annual budget and ensure effective budgetary controls and financial accountability.
· Ensure adherence to sound financial, personnel, and operational policies and procedures.
· Monitor organizational performance, manage and minimize risks to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
· Work closely with an accountant/bookkeeper to ensure day-to-day and month-to-month financials are accurate and complete.
· Be a responsible steward of organizational dollars, making educated, necessary, and warranted decisions regarding purchases and expenditures.
Community Engagement & External Relations
· Serve as a visible and active leader on St. Paul’s East Side, representing ESNDC in coalitions, partnerships, and community initiatives to achieve mutual goals.
· Build and maintain collaborative relationships with residents, businesses, community organizations, government agencies, and partners.
· Advocate for community priorities and long-range planning efforts that strengthen the East Side.
· Promote the mission, values, and strategic goals of ESNDC in the community.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
The ideal candidate will bring experience, passion, and commitment to the mission of ESNDC and the residents and businesses on St. Paul’s East Side. Specific requirements include:
· Proven ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors.
· Demonstrated success supervising and developing high-performing program staff.
· Strong communication and relationship-building skills with community members, partner organizations, funders, and government agencies.
· Track record of successful fundraising and securing foundation and government grants/contracts.
· Knowledge of nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
· Experience in nonprofit management and community based economic development.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, community driven, urban environment and engage respectfully with multicultural communities.
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate recurring operational challenges.
· Working knowledge of real estate development and familiarity with diverse communities is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
· Minimum of five years of nonprofit management experience, including staff supervision and team leadership.
· Minimum of five years managing complex high value budgets.
· Experience in fundraising, program leadership, and community partnerships.
