The Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS) is a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in Minnesota. We connect Minnesotans of all backgrounds with resources to engage in STEM learning, research, and communication. We serve K-12 and undergraduate students, educators, and schools, working with hundreds of STEM professionals to promote STEM learning and careers.
About the Role: MAS seeks a talented, passionate leader to direct our Fostering Opportunities and Relationships in STEM Education (FORSE) program . This year-round outreach program closes opportunity gaps and increases diversity in STEM fields by offering K-12 enrichment to populations traditionally underrepresented in the sciences.
The ideal candidate has experience working in educational settings, managing multiple projects, and is passionate about helping young people from diverse backgrounds envision a future for themselves in STEM.
Primary Responsibilities
Curate a portfolio of STEM enrichment activities for educational partners.
Schedule an annual calendar of STEM activities with partners.
Oversee staffing, volunteers, supplies, curriculum, and transportation for all program activities.
Manage student and school participant data to track impact and inform annual reports.
Attend program events to ensure smooth execution and partner satisfaction.
Maintain and renew annual partnerships with 20+ schools and educational sites.
Cultivate ongoing relationships with 13+ community partners, including nonprofits, educational services, and museums.
Schedule activities tailored to the specific needs of partner schools.
Work with staff, the Board, and consultants to develop program infrastructure and plan for future growth.
Assist the Executive Director with grant applications, sponsor reports, and program budgets.
Assist with organizational communications and support other MAS programs, as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree and/or teaching certification preferred, but not necessary).
Experience: At least two years of relevant experience or education is required.
Community Connection: Personal, professional, and/or lived experience with the communities we seek to impact through the FORSE program is required.
Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and project management abilities.
Aptitude for creative problem-solving.
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.).
Experience in teaching, curriculum development, nonprofit program management, youth program development, or community outreach is a plus.
