The Prevention and Training Program Specialist will lead efforts in identifying, developing, implementing, and overseeing violence prevention programming and training initiatives on behalf of the coalition. This position leads and works with member programs to identify and meet training needs of domestic violence advocates and organizations, provide technical assistance around training and prevention strategies, and institutionalize evaluative measures in the work to gauge our effectiveness for continuous improvement. The manager will ensure that all efforts align with the organization's mission to promote safe, inclusive, and violence-free communities.

Essential Responsibilities:

Prevention Strategy & Healthcare Integration (25%)

  • Lead the research, development, and implementation of VFMN’s statewide relationship abuse prevention strategy, ensuring all efforts align with the organization’s long-term vision plan.
  • Act as the primary liaison for work at the intersection of domestic violence and healthcare; collaborate with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), family home visiting nurses, and community health centers to integrate domestic violence response and prevention into medical settings.
  • Represent VFMN on state committees, including the Maternal Mortality Intervention Leadership Team; drive the implementation of the CUES intervention to address maternal mortality and reduce racial disparities in healthcare outcomes.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Department of Education, and Department of Human Services (DHS) – as well as sibling victim services coalitions - to promote a coordinated statewide prevention strategy.
Training Program Design & Oversight (50%)
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive trainings and continuing education (in-person and digital) for member programs and external stakeholders.
  • Manage all training contracts and collaborate with other VFMN staff to create sustainable, external-facing training opportunities that can be utilized by partners across the state.
  • Provide expert consultation to community partners and allied professionals on best practices in domestic violence prevention, victim-centered approaches, and trauma-responsive care.
  • Work across the VFMN team to ensure prevention and training efforts are integrated into the organization's broader policy and membership work.
Program Evaluation (15%)
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using data-driven metrics to inform continuous improvement and ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Prepare outcome reports and grant deliverables for funders; assist in grant writing and resource development to secure the future of prevention and training initiatives.
  • Take a lead role in coordinating and facilitating VFMN’s Annual Meeting, ensuring a meaningful and cohesive experience for statewide membership.
Other coalition work (10%)
  • Participate in the planning, preparation, and implementation of annual VFMN activities, such as: Intimate Partner Violence Homicide Memorial (January), Action Day at the Capitol (March), Annual Membership Meeting (September), etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities to perform duties effectively:
  • Deep understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, particularly through the lenses of trauma-informed care and anti-oppression.
  • Skilled in creating accessible, engaging, and relevant training and educational content.
  • Highly self-directed and organized; ability to manage multiple projects with competing timelines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and represent the coalition effectively.
Required Education & Experience
  • A degree or equivalent professional experience in Public Health, Social Work, Gender Studies, Education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and/or prior experience in direct service or survivor advocacy with a strong grasp of public health strategies used to reduce gender-based violence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Zoom, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Ability to manage sensitive data in compliance with confidentiality and funder guidelines.
