Our client is strengthening its risk management team by creating a new role is risk management.
Purpose of the function:
The Junior Risk Officer takes part in the companys overall Risk Management Framework, which provides proactive and constructive risk management advice, acting as a second line of defence for all the firm’s activities. Their approach to Risk Management is a proactive one, encompassing both Control and Analytics activities.
Having full access to internal portfolio managers’ performance and trading data, in-depth review and discussions are facilitated.
The Junior Risk Officer supports the Senior Risk Officer in the completion of his daily tasks. He/she will perform the monitoring and escalation of breaches through the company’s Key Risk Indicators
framework. The monitoring spans across the entire structure (mandates, clients, funds, strategies, etc) and is comprised of distinct limit categories (regulatory, contractual and internal). He/she will review and enhance risk and compliance processes, strengthen internal controls, and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
• Be familiar with the different investment mandates, organization and constraints
• Monitor regulatory, contractual and internal risk limits across funds and portfolios
• Monitor liquidity, leverage risk, counterparty risk and other global investment restrictions
• Put in place a formalized review of internal controls
• Ongoing monitoring of limits through the supervision of Key Risk Indicators
• Maintain and update a log of all breaches and validated exceptions
• Participate in the design, implementation and improvement of risk processes and internal
controls
• Understand the global risk management framework, including risk ownership and processes,
and propose improvements where needed.
• Support the Senior Risk Officer in his daily tasks
Key skills and requirements:
• 1-3 years’ experience in risk management and/or investment compliance
• Good knowledge of financial instruments, liquid assets and alternative investments such as
Hedge Funds and Private Equity
• Good understanding of technical and financial risk practices within the investment
management industry
• University degree or equivalent
• Professional certifications a plus (eg. FRM or CFA) – if not the company will support the chosen candidate in obtaining them later on.
• Highly organized and special attention to details
• Willing to learn
• Strong communication capabilities, interpersonal skills and a positive attitude, contributing to
create a constructive team spirit
• Fluent in English and French
• Advanced skills in MS Office Suite
• Knowledge of SQL language a plus
