Principal Accountabilities
- Design and implement scalable data architectures supporting the integration of multiple data sources, ensuring efficient, reliable data flow and accessibility across the organization.
- Develop, operate, and optimize data pipelines and ETL processes for large-scale datasets, ensuring performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Build and operationalize AI agent capabilities on Azure Databricks, including agent orchestration patterns and reusable components, ensuring secure access to enterprise data and tools.
- Design and implement Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based integrations to connect agents with internal and external systems, enabling standardized, future-proof orchestration.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists as a technical sparring partner, translating business use cases into scalable data and AI architectures, including setup, connectivity, and runtime considerations.
- Engage with IT and business stakeholders to gain access to data sources, define ingestion patterns into the data lake, and establish reliable refresh and monitoring cycles.
- Analyze, monitor, and troubleshoot data and AI workflows, ensuring data integrity, availability, and robustness for downstream analytics and agentic applications.
- Evaluate and integrate new data, database, and platform technologies, assessing architectural impact, scalability, and operational cost implications.
- Drive proactive data acquisition and platform improvements, demonstrating a self-starter mindset and continuously identifying opportunities to enhance data and AI foundations.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with strong exposure to data architecture, ETL pipelines, and performance optimization in production environments.
- Strong expertise in cloud-based data platforms, preferably Azure, including Databricks, data lakes, and orchestration of scalable data workloads.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI engineering, including building, orchestrating, and operationalizing agents on modern data/AI platforms (ideally Databricks).
- Practical experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or comparable agent–tool integration patterns, enabling secure, governed access to enterprise systems and APIs.
- Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL, with proven experience using PySpark for large-scale data processing.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, and lakehouse architectures, with the ability to design for scale, reliability, and performance.
- Experience integrating data via APIs, batch, and event-driven mechanisms, including external systems and enterprise platforms.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and proactive attitude, with the ability to independently identify, analyze, and resolve complex data and platform challenges.
- High learning agility and interest in emerging technologies, including Generative AI, agentic architectures, and evolving data engineering best practices.
