Trainee for control application study for the high intensity proton accelerator facility HIPA low-level RF system
Your tasks
Low-Level RF LLRF systems are critical for maintaining a stable electromagnetic field to accelerate particle beams. Its purpose is to regulate the amplitude and phase of the RF field in the accelerating structures using feedback loops, and to automate the operation of the RF station (setup, calibration, optimization, diagnostics, etc.). The modern digital LLRF systems enable a suite of advanced functions that are typically implemented as a set of software tools as also called LLRF applications.
Typical applications include:
- Setting the RF system operating point
- Identifying RF system models
- Optimizing feedback controllers
- Diagnosing system status and performance
- Automating operational procedures
This project is divided into two parts:
- Core Task: Study algorithms for LLRF applications through simulation or testing with Python/Matlab at the LLRF test stand
- Advanced Task (for experienced students): Implement the refined applications into a software package for the daily operation of the LLRF system
Your profile
- You are a student in engineering or physics, and you are at least in your ultimate year of undergraduate study (minimum 4 semesters)
- Multidisciplinary knowledge in digital signal processing, control theory, and software engineering is required
- You have not yet completed your Master’s thesis
We offer
Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration.
The contract will be limited to 3 months.
