The Bioprocess Engineer (BPE) provides technical and operational support for GMP manufacturing operations in Buffer & Media Preparation (BMS) Acting as the process Subject Matter Expert (SME), the BPE ensures safe, compliant, and reliable execution of manufacturing activities while driving standardization, continuous improvement, and operational readiness.
The role works closely with Manufacturing, QA, MSAT, Engineering, and Automation, and maintains a strong shop‑floor presence during routine operations, PPQ, and critical GMP campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical Support
- Provide hands‑on technical support to manufacturing teams during GMP operations and PPQ campaigns
- Act as process SME for assigned equipment, systems, and manufacturing activities
- Support tier meetings and structured escalation of operational risks and issues
- Participate in on‑call (pikett) support as required
Quality & GMP Compliance
- Lead or support deviation investigations, root cause analysis, and action closure
- Ensure operations comply with cGMP, data integrity, and safety requirements
- Author and review GMP documentation (SOPs, protocols, risk assessments, changes)
- Support regulatory inspections and audit readiness activities
Process Ownership & Improvement
- Own assigned processes, recipes, and equipment from readiness through routine use
- Drive standardization and process robustness across BMS
- Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities as manufacturing SME
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities (Lean / Six Sigma)
Execution Readiness & Collaboration
- Partner with Production and Planning to ensure material, equipment, and recipe readiness
- Proactively identify and manage execution risks impacting batch success and schedule adherence
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to resolve technical and compliance issues efficiently
Required Qualifications
- BSc or MSc in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or related field
- Experience in GMP biopharmaceutical manufacturing (large‑scale operations preferred)
- Strong understanding of BMS, USP, DSP, and/or single‑use systems
- Working knowledge of GMP documentation, deviations, and investigations
