About the Role
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Laser Process Engineer (m/f/d) to join this cutting-edge environment. This position bridges advanced laser technology and high-impact industrial applications. It combines deep expertise in laser micromachining with the strategic vision required to drive adoption of innovative processes across key product lines. The role involves pioneering new laser processes in the laboratory while shaping their strategic application to solve complex manufacturing challenges.
You will work closely with management and technical teams, influencing application development, guiding technology introduction strategies, and mentoring colleagues. The scope ranges from hands-on laboratory experimentation to building strong external partnerships.
Main Responsibilities
- Research and develop advanced laser process technologies for future product manufacturing, driving customised mass-production solutions
- Overcome technical limitations and demonstrate foundational processes for advanced applications, including:
- Precision laser welding (non-metal materials)
- Micrometer-scale drilling and cutting (ceramics and crystals)
- Embedding structures within materials (e.g., glass)
- Maximise utilisation of internal laser platform capabilities such as UKP laser, advanced beam steering, multi-beam scanning and beam shaping
- Develop and implement advanced laser process control solutions in collaboration with R&D institutes and third-party partners
- Drive the development of a multi-scale laser process simulation platform
- Scout the global ecosystem and remain at the forefront of ultra-precision laser material processing
Requirements
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a scientific or research-driven environment with proven expertise in femtosecond (fs) laser processing
- Demonstrated success in customised equipment development for advanced laser processes
- Experience working effectively within multicultural and interdisciplinary teams
- Highly structured, pragmatic and target-focused work style with strong self-management skills
