The Institute for Applied Construction Research (IAB) Weimar is one of the leading industry-oriented research institutes in Thuringia. For over 30 years, we have been developing innovative equipment, processes, and materials for the construction sector in close cooperation with partners from industry and academia. More than 130 employees work with us on practical solutions that help shape the construction world of tomorrow.
For our Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences, we are looking to fill a position as a Research Associate at the earliest possible date. In our interdisciplinary team, you will develop AI and data science solutions for real-world industrial applications. The focus lies on computer vision, language models, and the analysis of measurement and sensor data to automatically analyze, monitor, and optimize processes. Research results are systematically transferred into robust, production-ready solutions.
- Participation in research projects and industrial contracts
- Development and application of data science and machine learning methods
- Preparation, analysis, and visualization of measurement and process data
- Development and maintenance of Python-based analysis and evaluation pipelines
- Validation, documentation, and continuous improvement of models
- Close collaboration with other departments and industry partners
- Completed university degree in a STEM field (e.g., computer science, data science, engineering)
- Very good understanding of data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation
- Very good knowledge of Python and common data science and ML libraries (NumPy, pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib/seaborn; ideally PyTorch or TensorFlow)
- Structured, analytical, and independent working style
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Interest in practical, industry-oriented problem solving
- Very good German skills (native speaker or at least B2 level) and good English skills (at least B1 level)
