With over 600 years of tradition, the Faculty of Medicine at Leipzig University is one of the largest research institutions in the region. It is the largest of the university's 14 faculties, employing more than 1,300 staff members. The faculty trains about 3,600 students in human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and midwifery.
The Leipzig Cohorts and Trial(ist)s (LeiCoT) program addresses the growing need for clinician scientists who develop and conduct cohort studies and randomized controlled trials. LeiCoT builds on and expands the excellent infrastructure in the areas of metabolism, heart/brain, and cancer at Leipzig University. The program provides new career pathways, excellent training opportunities, cutting-edge clinical research tools, and long-term perspectives for clinical trialists, aiming to improve patient care. The program runs for six years, with an interim evaluation after three years.

Full-time position, fixed-term for 6 years (project-based, subject to third-party funding)
Salary according to TV-Ä EG Ä2
Start date: July 1, 2026
Your Profile
- Recognized medical specialist (Facharzt) with a strong background in basic, translational, or clinical research
- Proven research record in one of the three focus areas: metabolism, brain/heart, or cancer
- Demonstrated ability to establish, lead, and actively shape a research group
- Independent third-party funding acquisition is desirable
- German medical license (Approbation) or authorization to practice medicine in Germany
- Strong publication record, typically - 6 peer-reviewed original publications or at least one outstanding publication (e.g., top 10% journal or impact factor >15) as first or last author

- ACS funding: €135,000 per year, covering a 50% research position as well as personnel, consumables, and travel expenses

- 10-minute scientific presentation
- 10-minute discussion
- Upon successful evaluation: preparation of a budget plan for submission to the BMBF
- Program start: July 1, 2026, subject to formal approval
