About DoCS and the team:
The Doctoral School Computer Science DoCS (https://docs.univie.ac.at) founded in 2020 offers a structured doctoral programme that supports early-career research in the areas of Computer Science and Business Informatics. The programme includes world-leading researchers in Computer Science as supervisors and co-supervisors who pursue basic as well as applied research within an intensive doctoral teaching programme tailored to the scientific needs of students in small topical groups.
The Doctoral School Computer Science provides the option of performance-based contract extensions (up to 6 months) to doctoral students who previously had a position as a university assistant (predoc) or as a third-party funded researcher (predoc) at the University of Vienna. This completion contract is meant to support a high-qualified DoCS fellow in the final phase of their doctoral studies. The successful applicant will get a contract as a university assistant (predoc) and will be working in the research group Software Architecture at the Faculty of Computer Science.
The research focus of the group is on software architecture, software design and software engineering. The team currently consists of 9 scientific as well as 2 administrative colleagues. We put special emphasis on a relaxed and cooperative working environment. Social interactions help facilitate active scientific exchange and foster a good atmosphere, and therefore play a big role in our team.

Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which means:
- Your main task is to complete and submit your dissertation.
- You develop software engineering methods and tools with a specific focus on
- Software Architecture and Design,
- LLMs for Software Engineering or Security Engineering,
- API Design and Engineering,
- Design and Architecture of Microservice Design,
- Software Engineering for Machine Learning,
- Code Analysis/Generation for Machine Learning and MLOps, and
- Continuous Delivery and/or MLOps.
- You participate in research projects and studies.
- You hold university courses within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You publish internationally and give presentations.
- You are involved in organizing meetings, conferences and symposia.
- You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
These are your qualifications:
Must-haves:
- You have completed a Master's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a closely related field, whereby knowledge of computer science is assumed to be a given.
- You are enroled in a doctoral programme (Computer Science or Business Informatics) at the University of Vienna, and are a member of the Doctoral School Computer Science.
- You have an excellent academic and study record (e.g. FÖP within one year, annual submission of progress reports, outstanding publication record).
- You are highly motivated and committed to successfully complete your doctoral studies within the anticipated time frame.
- You have established experience in one or multiple software architecture areas such as
- Software Architecture and Design,
- LLMs for Software Engineering or Security Engineering,
- API Design and Engineering,
- Design and Architecture of Microservice Design,
- Software Engineering for Machine Learning,
- Code Analysis/Generation for Machine Learning and MLOps, and
- Continuous Delivery and/or MLOps.
- You bring didactic know-how and experience in e-learning.
- You have excellent command of written and spoken English (at least C1 Level). (The team communicates mainly in English!)
Desirable skills:
- You possess very good German language skills (B2).
- You are a team player with high social and good communicative skills.
- You are reliable and can work autonomously.
- You have knowledge of university processes and structures.
- You have experience abroad.
