Role Summary
The Material Master Data Analyst supports the end-to-end material master data lifecycle for assigned business units, plants, and/or regions. This role executes material master data requests and supports data quality across ERP/MDM platforms to enable planning, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, finance, and commercial execution.
The Analyst partners with process owners and IT to follow master data standards, business rules, and controls; helps manage intake and throughput for incoming requests; and maintains required documentation and stakeholder communication.
This is a hands-on analyst role focused on accurate and timely execution of material master data changes, adherence to standard processes, and continuous improvement through issue identification and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Execute material master data creation, extension, updates, and discontinuation across ERP/MDM systems; accurately process complex and critical changes with appropriate review and approvals.
Apply global/local material standards (naming conventions, attribute definitions, UoM, packaging, planning/MRP parameters, procurement types, compliance and regulatory fields) and flag gaps or exceptions for review.
Perform data quality checks (validation rules, mandatory attributes, duplicate prevention) and participate in periodic audits; document defects, support root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions as assigned.
Support master data workflows and SLAs, including intake, approvals, testing/validation, release, and audit documentation; provide status updates and escalate risks or blockers as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Procurement, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Commercial, IT) to clarify request requirements and ensure correct data setup.
Support ERP/MDM initiatives (rollouts, migrations, acquisitions/divestitures) through data cleansing, load validation, cutover/hypercare support, and defect triage.
Maintain SOPs and work instructions as assigned; participate in training and knowledge transfer; suggest automation and continuous improvement opportunities.
Success Measures
Sustained high material master data quality (accuracy, completeness, timeliness) with measurable reduction in defects and rework.
Consistent SLA adherence and predictable throughput; transparent backlog management and proactive risk escalation.
Audit-ready documentation and effective controls (e.g., SOX or other internal controls) with minimal audit findings.
Improved stakeholder satisfaction through clear intake, timely delivery, and reduced escalations.
Documented process improvements (standardization, automation, training) that reduce cycle time and increase compliance.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, or equivalent experience.
2–5 years of experience in material master data, supply chain data operations, or ERP/MDM master data roles.
Strong working knowledge of material master domains and downstream impacts (MRP, procurement, inventory valuation, manufacturing execution, batch/lot, serialization where applicable).
Strong attention to detail, ability to follow defined standards and controls, and disciplined documentation practices; capable of communicating effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting a master data function (ticket intake, SLAs, stakeholder communications, and escalations).
Strong ERP/MDM experience (e.g., SAP MM/MDG, S/4HANA, Oracle) including workflow, roles/authorizations, and change control.
Familiarity with data governance frameworks and tooling (e.g., data catalogs, data quality monitoring, workflow tools, ticketing systems such as ServiceNow/Jira).
Experience supporting major programs (ERP go-lives, cutovers, migrations, acquisitions) including data conversion and reconciliation.
Experience operating in controlled environments (SOX, GMP, FDA/EMA/ISO as applicable) with strong understanding of audit and traceability expectations.
Analytics and automation skills (advanced Excel, Power BI, SQL, Power Query, or scripting) to monitor data quality and streamline work.
Key Skills & Competencies
Ownership mindset with ability to lead through ambiguity and drive decisions with data.
Strong governance and controls mindset; ability to design and enforce standards and business rules.
Analytical problem-solving and root-cause analysis; translates recurring issues into preventive actions.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication; sets expectations, manages escalations, and delivers clear status reporting.
Ability to balance hands-on execution with coaching and process improvement while meeting tight deadlines and cutover timelines.
