On behalf of our client, a multinational, listed chemistry group headquartered in the Basel area, we are seeking a Patent Attorney (f/m):

Responsibilities:

• Supporting dedicated Divisions, commercial and/or development products of the group’s divisions in the development and implementation of IP strategies, including the protection of the group’s technology and inventions
• Analysing, creating and expanding freedom-to-operate for business operations and leading compliance with a focus on IP and legal matters
• Responsible for IP matters relating to specific BUs, commercial products and/or R&D projects, including rendering freedom to operate opinions and tailoring IP strategies for the particular project or product to meet the business goals
• Handling effectively the corresponding global patent portfolio and providing European expertise to the global IP team
• Close and effective collaboration with other members of the divisional patent teams, R&D chemists, colleagues in the legal group and the product management
• Representation of the group before the European Patent Office

Requirements:

• At least 7 years experience in the patent profession, practising in the chemical field
• Full academic qualification in chemistry or a related field
• Fluency in German and English
• Ability to independently develop and implement IP strategies in a chemical or similar industry
• Excellent communications skills
• Experience with working in matrix organizations
• Extensive knowledge in all aspects of patent creation, protection and defense
• Deep understanding of European Patent Law, and well acquainted with national and international patent laws – both in relationship with the grant procedure but also with post grant procedures such as opposition, litigation, etc.
• Knowledge of related rights such as trade secrets, trademarks, SPCs and licensing
• Knowledge of contract law and competition law
• Knowledge of the principles of product lifecycle management and post-patent strategies
• Knowledge of the principles of establishing freedom-to-operate and the ability to conduct objective evaluations of the scope and content of third party IP rights
