Christ Church Kirkland

Dürfen wir uns vorstellen?

Over the course of nearly 40 years, Christ Church Kirkland has expanded from a small, home-based church to a lively Christian community featuring a host of ministries for all ages. The church is located in Kirkland, Washington, a thriving community east of Seattle. Christ Church Kirkland began as an independent worship community in 1972 after Norm Willis, the current pastor, converted to Christianity. In 1974, Pastor Norm Willis and his wife brought their growing community under the leadership of Christ Church of Northgate, based in Seattle. Members of Christ Church Kirkland continued to meet in homes until 1985, when the elders at Northgate suggested that they form their own church. Approximately 140 people attended the first Sunday service at Carl Sandburg Elementary School in Kirkland, the church’s temporary home in its new neighborhood.

The move proved to be a fruitful one for Christ Church Kirkland, as it continued to grow. Soon, the space at Sandburg Elementary could no longer accommodate the increasing number of worshippers. As a result, the church signed a lease on the Spectra Lux building in Kirkland in 1991. After members converted the office space, the church held its first Sunday service on September 8, 1991.

The new space allowed Christ Church Kirkland to expand its ministries. In 2000, the church opened a co-op school so that parents could combine their resources to teach their children. The school later adopted a classical education plan that focused on the traditional program of grammar, logic, and rhetoric. The church expanded its youth ministry programs and founded a publishing company to produce and distribute Pastor Norm Willis’ books, tapes, and CDs. In March 2002, Kingdom Ministries International, a worldwide network of 40 to 45 churches, moved into the church’s offices.

Today, Christ Church Kirkland continues to provide faith formation, ministry, and education to its members. In addition to Saturday night and Sunday morning services, the church also hosts Wednesday night youth groups, Thursday night home Bible studies, an art and dance program, and a missionary program to Kenya.
