Gelymar is a world leader company in manufacturing and marketing of Hydrocolloids, specially Carrageenan, a seaweed extract used to provide texture and stability to a wide range of food and cosmetic products.
Its carrageenans are natural polysaccharides present in various red seaweeds that form viscous colloids or gels in an aqueous and/or milk media. The company’s carrageenan products include Kappa 1 that forms gels in water; Kappa II, which is extracted from cold water red seaweed; Iota that forms elastic thermo-reversible gels in water and milk; and Lambda, which is soluble in water and cold milk. It also provides various gums, including a natural polysaccharide obtained from tara seed; a natural polysaccharide from the endosperm of the seed of cyamopsis tetragonolobus; and a natural polysaccharide produced by fermentation of a culture of the microorganism Xanthomonas campestris. In addition, the company offers hydrocolloids systems, which integrate texture requirements. It offers its products for applications in the prepared foods, such as salad dressings, tart glazing, soy based preparations, jellified water desserts, fruit preparations, and fruit juices; meats, including injection hams, poultry injection, hamburgers and nuggets, fish, and pastries; dairy products, which include chocolate or flavored milk and mil beverages, desserts in cold or hot filled, various creams, processed chesses, and cream caramels; and personal care products, such as toothpastes and air fresheners. The company also offers its products for applications in pharmaceutical, paper, mining, industrial, and tobacco industries. Extractos Naturales Gelymar S.A. was founded in 1991 and is based in Santiago, Chile. The company has additional offices in Mexico, Mexico; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Barcelona, Spain; and Beijing, China. As of November 4, 2008, Extractos Naturales Gelymar S.A. operates as a subsidiary of Algina Inversion SA.
