A private philanthropic boarding school established in Hershey, Pennsylvania, The Milton Hershey School (MHS) provides free education from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade to children from low-income families. Believing that all students can be successful, Milton Hershey of the Hershey’s Chocolate fame, and his wife, Catherine Sweeney Hershey, founded the school in 1909.
Attending a year-round program, students live in large comfortable homes on the MHS campus. Married house parents who have childcare experience oversee each house and ensure the safety of the students. Teachers and house parents work as a team and inform the parents of the child’s development.
With a learning environment that emphasizes preparing children for life after high school, Milton Hershey School designed three other centralized programs aside from its academic program: Student Character and Leadership, Applied and Integrated Learning, and Student Health Services. In addition, the school also offers extracurricular activities like athletics, theater productions, service organizations, and internships.
