With thousands of locations across the United States, environmentally conscious enterprise USAgain LLC helps those unable to afford new clothing by offering discounted, gently used apparel. Recyclers drop off their unwanted pieces at drop boxes, where they are passed on to patrons who purchase the goods at a reduced price. USAgain donation bins can be found in a variety of locations, including churches, schools, apartment buildings, and shopping malls. The program has saved more than 420 million items from landfills. In May 2011, USAgain expanded its California operations to include more than 500 additional collection bins.
USAgain contributes to the eradication of poverty by offering affordable clothing and household goods to its patrons. The company also makes regular contributions to hundreds of charities throughout the country.
More than just a recycling service, USAgain also contributes to the preservation of the earth’s natural resources through the reduction of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. USAgain thwarts excessive resource and energy use by encouraging reuse of these items instead of stimulating the manufacture of new clothing. USAgain is active with associations in eight states in addition to its membership with the Solid Waste Association of North America. USAgain also supports the Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise Program.
USAgain is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, employing 220 people; the company has 11 regional offices throughout the United States. Company founder Janice Bostic guides the firm’s key activities, including its expansion and strategic objectives.
