In the context of the Sen4Rust project (CIMMIT, UCLouvain and Cambridge University), which aims to enhance the Ethiopian Wheat Rust Early Warning and Advisory System (EWAS), I explored the capability of super-resolution PS-S2 satellite imagery – obtained through PlanetScope and Sentinel-2 sensor fusion – and AI for field boundary segmentation in a smallholder cropping system in Ethiopia.

Developed a semi-automatic image analysis procedure for remote weed mapping in sugar cane with over 95% weed detection efficacy. Integrated the technology with an autonomous spraying UAV for site-specific weed management, reducing herbicide application by 80% and costs by up to 85%. Managed multiple research projects for UAV spraying in various crops, prepared reports and technical proposals, and provided technical support to sales and operation teams. Recruited, trained, and coordinated the GIS team.

Collaborated with graduate students to design and deliver theoretical and practical classes for Soil Physics, including collecting soil samples in the field and preparing laboratory materials and practical exercises. Facilitated student learning by providing guidance on exercises, resolving doubts, and correcting completed activities and tests.
