Responsible for the treatment of asylum applications from several regions (Central and Southern Afri-ca, Eritrea, Nigeria and Afghanistan). This includes in particular the determination of the substantial facts through the conduct of interviews. Responsible for drafting asylum decisions. These tasks re-quire an ongoing analysis of the political developments in the countries of origin as well as a focused treatment of the various background information for each individual case.

Develop/update internal roster of electoral experts; Identify experts in priority areas (Governance, Justice, Human Rights, Electoral Assistance); Identification of potential partner organizations in the electoral area; Oversee/support recruitment for European Union Lot 7 missions; Acquisition of new projects for the company.

Analyse technical and political challenges of future electoral process; Identify the planned activities of other donor countries/agencies/international organizations; Analyse the goals of the involved actors (Ministry of Interior, electoral commission, BNUB, UNDP, opposition parties, civil society, donor countries); Clarify the needs of the Burundian Electoral Commission; Draft an internal report analysing the challenges and with recommendations for a Swiss support for contributing to peaceful elections

Collect information on critical political and security issues (tribal conflicts, monitoring dissidents and armed groups, cross-border conflicts); Undertake short- and mid-term analyses on security and/or political issues and provide recommendations on operational priorities for Senior Management; Monitor military structures and commands including illegally armed groups; Support and coordinate the ROC analytical leg ad-hoc secretariat for specific working groups on issues that need a cross-divisional/compone

Tracking assessments made by both national and international observer groups; Produce summaries and reports on the activities of national and international observer organizations and ensure feedback is received on the referendum processes; Brief national and international stakeholders in their area of responsibility; Facilitate accreditation of members of the UNSG’s Panel and staff for referendum activities.

Draft/review electoral operational plans and procedures for voter registration, registration of candidates, polling, and tallying and counting; Strategic planning of the electoral process to support the national electoral authority in the organisation and preparation of the various electoral events; Support the Director in liaising and coordinating with international donors to the electoral process and provide electoral updates for international electoral stakeholders (mainly the UNDP/PACE donors).

Monitor and evaluate/analyse the political and security-related developments in the country and their incidence over the long-term political and social stability; Collect relevant information on political and security trends in liaison with substantive sections of the UN mission as well as with UN Police, Military Liaison Group, UN agencies, NGOs, civil society, donor and other development organizations.

Collected information on national and international electoral stakeholders (political parties, ministries, NGOs, electoral commission) for weekly internal updates. Analysed political and security-related issues, including politically motivated violence during electoral campaigns. Liaised with relevant UNMIT sections. Managed ECT office. Substantive contribution to monthly reports assessing the electoral process.

Assisted the recruitment process of UN Volunteers. Identified suitable candidates for specific requests by peacekeeping operations. Monitored clearance procedures for Human Rights Officers. Held interviews in five languages to inform and test potential candidates. Informed and motivated numerous candidates to apply for suitable positions. Gained a valuable overview of the work of Special Operations and UNV Headquarters.
