Business, technical, and academic English to Engineering students

I am an attorney with experience in the US and Europe pursuing clients’ interests through effective written and verbal communication. I am CELTA-certified with both professional (J.D., law) and technical (B.S., geology) backgrounds. I lectured in business-related legal subjects at the American University in the Emirates, where I also proofread and edited works of academic colleagues. My legal, academic, and technical backgrounds make me particularly suited to proofread and edit materials in those fields.

Taught business law, negotiation skills, insurance law, and healthcare law courses in mixed-gender classrooms with 3-50 undergraduates from over 25 different countries. Taught English for Special Purposes course in the University’s College of Education. Syllabus design of all legal courses for business students, including development of an insurance law course for undergraduate business students. Proofread and edited English-language publications for academic colleagues.

Counseled businesses on the most strategic structuring of activities possible to comply with the European Union’s Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation of Chemicals law. Coordinated activities among technical consultants, product stewards or global product leaders and others within businesses to obtain chemical registrations under REACH in the most cost-effective manner. Conducted advocacy activities with chemicals agencies to secure needed approvals.

Represented trade association in EU drinking water legislation stakeholder meetings of the European Commission. Conducted and coordinated advocacy activities to obtain legislation that both protects drinking water supplies and encourages a healthy European market of materials in contact with drinking water.

Litigated and counseled clients in a wide range of environmental areas, including Clean Water Act, Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, National Environmental Policy Act, hazardous waste issues, Endangered Species Act, Freedom of Information Act, and administrative law issues. Represented clients in state and federal courts, and before administrative bodies. Advocated clients’ interests to influence emerging legislation and regulations.

Learned the fundamentals of writing, editing and delivering back-of-book indexes to publishing clients.
