Dr. Md Abul Kalam Azad

Research associate at the Bionics working group of Prof. Wilhelm Barthlott at University of Bonn, Germany. Research topic: Biological and biomimetic under-water air retaining surfaces to reduce drag. Contribution: • Replication of a few biological models as well as their characterization. • Analysis of the interaction of oil with the air layer of the samples under water. • Supervision of bachelor thesis students.

Dissertation title: “Fog collection on plant surfaces and biomimetic applications” Research focus: • Capture and passive transport of fog micro-droplet on plant and technical surfaces. • Physics at solid-liquid interface, in particular micro-/nanostructure of surfaces. • Superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic surfaces and coatings. Research collaboration: • Collaborated with 3 research institues • Contributed to writing a project proposal submitted under ‘BMBF VIP project’.

Research on coating materials for homogeneous light distribution on the surfaces at Prof. Bastian’s Optics Lab as a research assistant at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Teaching assistant at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Courses taught/instructed: Fundamentals of Chemistry; and Chemistry laboratory practical.
