Paul Heeren

My PhD in astronomy, research field of exoplanets, served two projects: First, I was part of a telescope project at the Landessternwarte Heidelberg, involving mechanical and electrical work as well as software development for the means of controlling instruments and reducing the data. Second, I lead and coordinated a research project on the analysis of observational data of a star, aiming to find an exoplanet. I used statistical tools and different programming languages (mostly Python).

I wrote articles, both for print in the magazine "Sterne und Weltraum" and for online publication on the website of "Spektrum der Wissenschaft", presenting new insights and developments in the field of astronomy to a broad audience.

Master's thesis in field of astronomical instrumentation, building a high-resolution Echelle spectrograph to be used on a telescope for finding exoplanets through Doppler spectroscopy.

Bachelor's thesis in the field of planet formation, writing a C++ program to simulate the gravitational collapse of a gas-dust-cloud, involving hydrodynamics and basic numerical integrators.
