I head the team of the Clean Energy Wire and klimafakten.de, which cover the German Energy Transition out of Berlin and support climate science communication. The goal of the Clean Energy Wire -- funded by Stiftung Mercator and the European Climate Foundation -- is to provide and promote quality journalism about the Energiewende. We help international journalists to get the information, contacts and access they need to report about this complex story.

Teaching practical journalism for second-year undergraduate students

I led a team of three experienced journalists, covering Britain`s troubled economy, the Bank of England`s struggle to kick start growth, the finance minister`s fight to bring the deficit down. I wrote, edited and commissioned in-depth analysis and broader feature articles. I planned and coordinated the day-to-day news coverage, was lead-writer on the top-stories and interviewed key policymakers. I maintained high-level contacts to institutions such as the finance ministry and the Bank of England.

As Acting Bureau Chief Switzerland, I oversaw the whole coverage out of Switzerland between February and October 2010 on top of my reporting brief, leading over 20 journalists and photographers. I planned, coordinated and steered coverage in all areas, including company, central bank and general news. I represented Reuters editorial to clients and non-editorial staff and held a series of external and internal presentations on news. I moderated internal events and panels of experts at an investor conference

I covered the Swiss economy from the height of the boom to the near-collapse in the financial crisis. I reported about the Swiss National Bank`s dramatic actions to save the country`s large banks and its epic fight to tame the franc as well as its drive to tighten the reins on the banks. I delivered news and insights well ahead of competitors. I frequently wrote other business news and general news stories. I planned and coordinated the coverage of the world’s largest gathering of central bankers in Basel.

I planned and oversought the German coverage of the European Central Bank as the ECB set out for its first interest rate increase in years, standing in for ECB correspondent on leave. I covered the German economy in the years when the Schroeder government applied its harsh cure for what was then dubbed "the sick man of Europe". I wrote a string of analysis about, interviewed leading economists and built strong contacts to the economist community.

I covered German economics news, the government bond and foreign exchange market. Early on in my career I secured exclusive coverage of German consumer sentiment indicator for Reuters, giving clients a key edge over the users of competing providers.
