I'm a senior developer at Studio 38, a design company and web agency in Mitte, right in the heart of Berlin. My work here focuses on backend web development with Django and Django-CMS. Studio 38 has developed and maintains a series of web sites for Kulturprojekte centered on the artistic and creative sector, such as Creative City Berlin, Berlin Bühnen or Museumsportal.

I’m a fullstack IT consultant focusing on architecting, developing, hosting and deploying mobile-friendly webapps, Content Management Systems and REST APIs for mobile apps or Rich-Internet-Applications. For backend webdev I specialize in Django, including tools such as Django REST Framework, Django-CMS and Wagtail. For frontend webdev I focus on React and next.js. I'm also a capable iOS programmer. For IaaS hosting I favour AWS EC2 with Ansible, while for PaaS I prefer AWS Elastic Beanstalk and CodeStar.

I was the main developer for a completely overhauled version of SAPO News (Banca SAPO) for iOS, a top 200 free app in the Portuguese App Store (top 5 in the free News section). In just over two months since version 2.0.3 was published, the revamped version managed to attract 775 overwhelming positive ratings from its users, raising the average rating of Banca SAPO from 3.5 to 4.5. This makes it the 6th app with most user ratings in the top 200 free apps in the Portuguese store.

I developed and published my first iOS application on Apple’s iTunes App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/all-your-base-calculator/id435260256 - "All Your Base Calculator" is a universal iPhone & iPad app that aims to make arithmetic in non-standard bases as natural as in decimal base.

I was the lead developer in a project for PepsiCo, where I designed and implemented the prototype of a mobile webapp capable of adapting to situations with very sporadic internet access. The webapp was optimized for Android and made extensive use of advanced HTML5 capabilities of the Android mobile WebKit browser, such as client-side database storage and offline caching. I implemented the initial version of the JavaScript front-end and implemented most of the server-side in Django running on FreeBSD.

As part-owner, I worked directly with the CEO of Core Factor to establish business priorities and identify new projects. I became the lead developer for two internal projects: a webapp for map-centric restaurant discovery using an innovative clustering approach, and a webapp for collaborative real-time music creation. We used Django for the server-side of both projects. For the real-time, bidirectional aspects of the music webapp we used Orbited, a Python cross-browser Comet framework.

I was a Product Manager in the Mobile TV product line. Later I moved to the IPTV group and became responsible for the integration of Mobile TV into our IPTV solution. My responsibilities included analyzing market trends, surveying the competition, understanding customer needs, identifying new features and building a business case for them.

I led a team of developers responsible for the development of several software components for a Mobile TV solution based on the DVB-H standard. Our main programming languages were Java, Erlang, C++ and C. We adopted Agile practices such as unit-testing and automated builds and eventually moved to a full-blown SCRUM methodology centered around time-boxed development.

I taught over 17 different Sun Microsystems training courses, including several high-end J2EE and Sun Java Enterprise System courses. Most of these courses lasted one or two full workweeks and included both theoretical lectures and hands-on supervised practical assignments. Crossroads was at the time the official Sun Microsystems training partner in Portugal. I loved teaching, and fortunately the feeling was mutual, as evidenced by the anonymous evaluation questionnaires filled in by every student.

PsiEngine handled several major software projects for the insurance company Allianz, its major customer. I was one of the main developers in a software project for Allianz and was the lead developer for two other internal projects. I worked with C#, Windows Forms, ASP.Net and ADO.Net to build graphical applications, webapps, and multithreaded background services. I also used SQL Server, performing tasks such as designing ADO.Net data models, creating tables, views and triggers and stored procedures in T-SQL

The focus of my employment at Sun (now Oracle) was on building highly available solutions for high-end customers. I specialized in the deployment. maintenance and troubleshooting of highly available systems with redundant storage and with no single-point-of-failure. These were mostly N-tier middleware systems supported by an Oracle database.

At LIP I was part of the CERN international collaboration behind NA50 (www.cern.ch/NA50), a ground-breaking experiment which demonstrated the existence of the Quagma, a plasma of unbound quarks and gluons that was heralded as a new state of matter. The main focus of my work at LIP was programming computer simulations of full frontal collisions between lead atoms.

I’m a freelance IT consultant focusing on architecture and development of mobile apps and content management systems. I specialise in backend development with Django. I'm proficient with popular Django tools such as the Django REST Framework for creating REST APIs and Content Management Systems such as Django-CMS and Wagtail. I'm also an iOS programmer who developed one version of one of the most popular news app in the Portuguese app store.
