Supplier Engineer I (m/f/d)
Position Objective
Strategic selection and qualification of suppliers
Monitoring and ensuring the required product quality of supplied components
Identification of supplier development opportunities
Quality‑Related Responsibilities
The employee ensures that all applicable quality procedures and regulations related to the role are followed at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary technical interface between Abiomed and suppliers, maintaining close communication and supporting regular on‑site visits.
Select and qualify suppliers and their components for new product development, product updates, supplier changes, or dual‑sourcing initiatives.
Create all required qualification documentation and assess supplier process capabilities and measurement system capabilities.
Provide manufacturing engineering support to suppliers during serial production.
Support suppliers in the optimization, stabilization, and further development of manufacturing and quality assurance processes.
Contribute to or lead cost‑reduction programs at suppliers and within Abiomed.
Conduct technical evaluations and provide rapid solutions when nonconforming components are identified in incoming inspection.
Collaborate extensively with R&D, Quality, and Operations.
Contribute to or take responsibility for defining product specifications, including manufacturable tolerances and clear inspection criteria.
Define and implement quality assurance plans and risk‑mitigation procedures to ensure product quality.
Support the definition and qualification of inspection methods and measurement equipment for incoming inspection.
Contribute to or lead project management activities related to new product development, product improvements, capacity increases, and internal supply‑chain optimization projects.
Member of the Material Review Board (MRB)
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Acts as an interface to all internal departments.
Job Requirements
Education
Completed technical degree, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Work Experience
Plant Engineer, Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineer).
Special Skills & Competencies
Basic knowledge of design engineering and technical drawing interpretation
Experience with plastics processing
Hands‑on experience in process data collection (SPC) and process capability analysis
Knowledge of Quality Management, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing, are beneficial
High innovation ability, strong problem-solving skills, and strong communication and teamwork abilities
Strong execution skills
Fluent German and English (written and spoken)
Proficient in MS Office
Knowledge of project management and SAP
Willingness to travel to suppliers (mainly Germany and Western Europe)
The anticipated base pay range for this position is 51.200 EUR to 80.845 EUR.
