At RhyGaze, we are currently seeking a highly skilled, motivated and proactive (Senior) Scientist with a background in Ophthalmology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or related fields and strong hands-on experience in cell and molecular biology to join our Discovery Team. The ideal candidate will possess a proven ability to advance complex research programs in fast-paced environments by independently designing, executing and troubleshooting experiments.

Responsibilities will involve laboratory-based and operational tasks, including:
- Establish and optimize molecular biology assays (nucleic acid isolation, PCR, including digital and quantitative, molecular cloning).
- Handle and experimentally manipulate primary eye cells and cell lines with excellent aseptic technique.
- Assess targeting efficiency of CRISPR/Cas9 assets in vitro and in samples from in vivo studies.
- Use confocal microscopy together with image analysis software (Fiji, QuPath, Imaris) to examine cells and tissues and perform diverse quantifications.
- Analyze, summarize and interpret experimental data.
- Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records in electronic lab notebook.
- Scientific writing and presentation of research plans and results.
- Contribute to the management of suppliers and vendors.
- Contribute to the building of quality systems and experimental protocols.
- Maintain a tidy, well-organized and functional lab.
Requirements
- PhD in Ophthalmology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or related field.
- 3+ years hands-on experience performing molecular biology assays in an industrial, academic, or clinical setting.
- Strong technical understanding of and hands-on experience with the CRISPR/Cas9 system.
- Solid knowledge of eye anatomy and gene therapy.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Highly collaborative and self-driven.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Additionally desired but not essential qualifications:
- Experience in a biotech start-up environment.
- Experience in the use of lipid nanoparticles.
- Experience with biochemical assays (Western blot, Jess).

The position is based in Basel, Switzerland. Candidates are expected to be onsite but there is flexibility to work from home occasionally. As part of an international team, the working language is English; hence, strong written and spoken English skills are essential.
