Bioinformatics Scientist (PostDoc)(d/w/m) in Early Cancer Genomics

Über diesen Job

The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so-called third pillar.

Are you passionate about using data science to understand and prevent cancer? The Kübler Lab (https://kueblerlab.org/) is looking for a motivated and creative bioinformatics scientist from October 01, 2025 until October 31, 2026 (with option to extend) in full-time (38,5h/per week) with a strong interest in cancer genome analysis to join our interdisciplinary team at the newly inaugurated Rahel Hirsch Center for Translational Medicine, centrally located in Berlin-Mitte. We are an enthusiastic and collaborative group that focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of early tumorigenesis and translating these insights into cancer prevention strategies. Our lab has published high-impact work on various cancer types (e.g., Cancer Cell 2018, PMID: 30057201; Nature Genetics, in press) and has pioneered novel machine learning approaches for analyzing genomic data (e.g., bioRxiv 517565). The Kübler Lab is integrated into the extensive Berlin research ecosystem and provides an excellent environment for professional growth and development.

What you can expect

  • Independently develop and apply computational methods to map molecular trajectories from normal tissue to cancer, leveraging single-cell data, machine learning, and integrative multi-omics to uncover key mechanisms of early tumorigenesis.
  • Lead or contribute to analysis, interpretation, and publication of results in high-impact journals.
  • Design and refine the research project in consultation with the PI and team, including formulating hypotheses and developing analysis strategies.
  • Lead or contribute to the writing of scientific publications and grant applications.
  • Present research findings at international conferences, lab meetings, and seminars.
  • Actively participate in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment and contribute to mentoring junior researchers and/or students.

What you bring along

  • Very good academic university degree (master's or equivalent) in the MINT field (bioinformatics, computer science, genetics, or a related field)
  • Excellent advanced scientific degree (PhD) in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology or a related STEM field; prior working experience is a strong advantage.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in NGS data analysis and result interpretation of normal and tumor samples (e.g., RNA-seq, WGS/WES, epigenetic, single-cell data); experience with mult-omics data integration is a plus.
  • Proficient programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash, R), with familiarity in machine learning frameworks and version control (Git); capable of writing clean, well-documented, and reproducible code and working with academic open-source software; experience in statistical data analysis.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills, including a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals; high level of German proficiency (written and oral, B1/2) and fluent in English (C1/C2) or English native speaker
  • Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy, reliability, and scientific integrity, with a strong work ethic and a high level of personal accountability.

What we offer you

  • A varied job in a forward-looking research institute
  • Pay group E13 TVöD VKA-K. The classification is based on qualifications, the respective experience level is calculated on the basis of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is stated for a full-time position without special or additional payments. The collective agreement can be found here .
  • Additional benefits customary in the public sector (including annual special payment, company pension scheme (VBL), capital-forming benefits)
  • Flexible working hours
  • 30 vacation days per year (with a five-day week)
  • Various support offers to balance work and family life (childcare, cooperation with voiio)
  • Very good training and further education opportunities
  • Mobile citizens' office on site
  • Corporate benefits (travel, leisure, shopping, etc.), Charité Gympass, JobRad
  • Very easily accessible and attractive workplace at the Rahel Hirsch Center for Translational Medicine, Luisenstr. 65, 10117 Berlin

Additonal Information:

Mobile work is not possible, as the project relies on close collaboration, in-depth discussions, and real-time exchange with team members. On-site presence is essential to ensure seamless integration of computational insights and active contribution to our dynamic research environment.
