The Central Institute for Catholic Theology (IKT) invites applications for a Full professorship in ‘Theological Ethics’ (W2) from 1 May 2027.
Founded in 2019, the Institute for Catholic Theology is a central institute of Humboldt University in Berlin. It sees itself as an intellectual centre for cosmopolitan, research-oriented, methodologically advanced and multifaceted Catholic theology that seeks dialogue with politics, culture, religion and society.
Full professorship in ‘Theological Ethics’ (W2)
from 1 May 2027.
Working field:
The professorship represents the entire field of theological ethics in research and teaching, with a focus on biomedical ethics. A central task is the dialogue between Theological anthropology and the life sciences. In addition to acquiring and implementing third-party funded projects, the successful candidate is also expected to be willing to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation with other faculties and institutes at Humboldt University in Berlin and other research institutions in the Berlin area, as well as to participate in the international networking of the IKT. In particular, the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate convincing motivation and suitability for participating in existing or future intra- and interdisciplinary joint projects of the institute. Similarly, a commitment to the innovative and structural development of theologies at Humboldt University and participation in the Interdisciplinary Center for Interreligious Theology and Religious Studies (CITRS) is expected.
The duties of the professorship include teaching, supervising bachelor's and master's theses, and doctoral dissertations. Commitment to teacher training and the further development of degree programmes is required. Professors (m/f/d) at Humboldt University in Berlin are also expected to be involved in academic self-administration. In the interest of broad interdisciplinary networking, institute members (m/f/d) should seek secondary membership in the central institutes/faculties that are particularly close to their field of expertise.
Requirements:
Requirements for employment are a completed degree in Catholic theology, pedagogical aptitude and the ability to carry out in-depth independent academic work, proven by an outstanding relevant doctorate in the field. Research and teaching experience in these research areas should be demonstrated.
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the Berliner Hochschulgesetz (BerlHG).
