Salary group

Working at Charité

The Research group of Prof. Dr. med. Ulrich Keller is looking for a highly qualified and motivated scientist to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of translational myeloma research/data science.

Our research group is an interdisciplinary and innovative team consisting of physicians and scientists from biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. We work in state-of-the-art laboratories with access to all technologies. We place great emphasis on structured scientific mentoring and successful onboarding.

Our research is funded by German Research Foundation (DFG), German Cancer Aid (Krebshilfe), Hector Foundation, EKFS and others. The project builds on extensive preliminary work in which we developed a novel single-cell sequencing technology for the analysis of genome-wide cancer screens. This technology will now be applied to comprehensive functional screening and complemented by multiple state-of-the-art technologies and validation platforms.

Overview of the position

  • Translational PhD project with a bioinformatic focus aiming at identifying biomarkers that enable early prevention and prediction of the progression from myeloma precursor stages to active disease
  • Development and evaluation of targeted therapeutic strategies for patients with hard-to-treat myeloma
  • Bioinformatic analysis of a genome-wide transposon mutagenesis screen in CCND1- and MMSET-deregulated plasma cell tumors in a mouse model and corresponding human biosamples
  • Analysis of resulting tumors through high-dimensional spectral flow cytometry
  • Bulk and single-cell analyses of resulting tumors, with close collaboration and synergies with a parallel single-cell project from our group at the Max-Delbrück-Center (BIMSB)
  • Clonality analysis of paired MGUS / myeloma samples for the identification of risk genes for transformation into multiple myeloma
  • Inform subsequent mechanistic studies and translate findings into the human disease context in close collaboration with other researchers
  • Application of a wide range of methodologies: single-cell analysis, RNA/DNA sequencing, proteomics, spectral flow cytometry and CRISPR-screens

What we are looking for

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related natural science discipline with a strong emphasis on bioinformatics and/or data analysis
  • High motivation, ability to conduct independent scientific research, solution-oriented thinking and excellent communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of statistical testing, as well as molecular and cell biology
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken
  • Desirable: hands-on experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and large-scale data management

Charité offers you

  • Highly professional work environment in motivated and interdisciplinary teams
  • A future-oriented, varied and demanding position with a high grade of personal responsibility and personal decision making opportunities
  • Extensive offers for inhouse training and professional development as well as further qualifications
  • Special offers in the areas of shopping, travel and sports
  • Bike leasing via "JobRad" possible, bike repair workshop with subsidised price conditions for employees available
  • Additional pension program with a company wide pension scheme
  • Certification as a family friendly university and company since 2007 - You may find further information here
  • Consideration of personal wishes regarding the weekly working schedule

Information regarding the position

  • Paygrade E13 according to TVöD VKA-K. You may find further information here
  • Working hours will be part-time from 65% or full-time with up to 38.5 hours per week. Please indicate how many hours you would like to work per week
  • The position is limited until 31.01.2029, as it is tied to the project duration
  • 30 days of paid vacation per year
  • The application period ends on: 22.02.2026
  • Position ID: 6441
