Postdoctoral Research Position (f/m/d)

in the Research Group "Numerical Mathematics and Scientific Computing"

to be filled by 1st November 2026.

This position offers the opportunity for independent scientific research aimed at advancing your own academic qualifications. The position is based in the Research Group "Numerical Mathematics and Scientific Computing”, led by Prof. Dr. Volker John.

Research Area: Numerical analysis and scientific computing, with a focus on flexible perovskite photovoltaics.

Topics of particular interest include the mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, and scientific computing of partial differential equations governing drift-diffusion charge transport, as well as strain and stress. Applications focus on perovskite materials and devices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Publication of research results in leading international peer-reviewed journals
• Presentation of findings at international conferences
• Active participation in the acquisition of third-party funding

We are looking for:

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with an outstanding university degree and an excellent PhD in mathematics, with a profile closely aligned with the research area outlined above.

Highly desirable qualifications include:

• A strong background in the theory and implementation of finite volume methods for charge transport problems
• Experience in co-developing Julia packages within collaborative teams
• Track record of interdisciplinary collaboration with external partners in physics or engineering
• Relevant research experience from an initial postdoc phase

Successful candidates will be fully employed (39 hours per week) at WIAS for an initial period of three years. The salary is according to the German TVoeD Bund scale.
