For the Department Fish Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture of IGB in Berlin-Friedrichshagen at Lake Müggelsee we are inviting applications for the position of a Research Assistant starting as of 01 January 2026.

Vaccination of fish is an effective means of preventing diseases in aquaculture. In the Fish Parasitology and Immunology group, we are investigating novel methods for improved vaccine administration in fish and are seeking support for the joint project ‘Immersion vaccination of fish using low-frequency sonophoresis (VacSono)’. The project aims to experimentally demonstrate how the effectiveness and efficiency of immersion vaccination can be improved by means of sonophoresis, with a view to applying the method in operational practice.

Your tasks

  • Investigations into the effect of low-frequency ultrasound on immersion vaccination of rainbow trout
  • Histological and molecular biological analyses
  • Presentation of the research results
  • Publication of research results in international journals

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (university diploma/M.Sc.) in biology, fisheries science or a related field
  • Practical laboratory experience with methods of molecular biology and/or in the field of histology
  • Experience in animal experimentation is an advantage
  • Knowledge of statistical methods for data analysis
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Willingness to undertake business trips lasting several days

Our offer

We offer an interesting position in an international and dynamic scientific environment. We foster flat hierarchies and active participation. We allow maximum individual freedom, enabling everyone to develop and use their creativity to the best of their abilities. The position is paid according to the German salary scheme for the public sector (TVöD Bund) as an 65 % position at E13 if the personal requirements are met. It is a fixed-term position, initially limited to 1 year. If the first experimental phase is successful, there is the possibility of temporary continued employment. The results of this project are principally suitable to develop a doctoral thesis.

We foster your career development by providing qualification and training opportunities. We actively support the reconciliation of work and family life.
