Experimental Surgery is a vibrant and interdisciplinary lab at department of Surgery, Charité Universitätsmedizin, Berlin, with a focus on areas ranging from regenerative medicine and transplantation to oncology and digital surgery. This position is part of a joint research grant and an ongoing collaboration between Dr. Muhammad Imtiaz Ashraf (Charité Universitätsmedizin, Berlin) and Prof. Stefan Tullius (Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard, Boston). You will thus benefit from the outstanding partnership between world leading institutions, providing opportunities for networking, international collaboration and joint publications.
Overview of the position
You will join an exciting research project, which aims to improve utilization and outcome of old organs for transplantation.
- You investigate whether ex-vivo perfusion of aged kidneys with senolytics effectively removes senescent cells
- You delineate the effects of senescent cell removal on immunogenicity, organ quality, and transplant outcomes using a mouse kidney transplantation model
- You will be involved in experiments utilizing ex-vivo machine perfusion of the aged mouse kidneys with Senolytics
- You carry out perform perfusate analysis for products released by senescent cells and senolysis
- In addition, you will conduct histopathological, functional inflammatory analysis of the transplanted mouse kidneys following ex vivo perfusion
- According to § 110 (4), sentence 3, the BerlHG provides for a reasonable amount of time within working hours for research assistants to pursue their own further scientific qualification
What we are looking for
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate with
- Master’s or PhD degree in biology, pharmacy, medicine or a related field
- Experience in bioanalytical methods such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
- Experience in animal experimentation is a plus, but not mandatory
- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Information regarding the position
- Paygrade E13 according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
- Working hours are part-time with up to 20 hours per week
- The position is limited until 31.03.2027, as it is tied to the project duration (extension possible)
