Who We Are
The Dahlem Center for Complex Quantum Systems (DCCQS) at Freie Universität Berlin is seeking to fill a position as a Research Associate (praedoc) (m/f/d) in the field of theoretical solid-state physics with a focus on quantum transport in chiral superconductors. The position is funded by the Cluster of Excellence Center for Chiral Electronics (CCE).
The Dahlem Center provides an exciting forum for discussion that promotes the exchange of ideas and supports collaboration between established and early-career researchers in Germany and around the world (https://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/forschung/dahlem-center-for-complex-quantum-systems/index.html).

The center's research focus is on quantum-theoretical solid-state physics in its entirety.
The CCE Cluster of Excellence is an interdisciplinary research project within the framework of Germany's Excellence Strategy. Since January 2026, the consortium has been conducting research on chiral materials to develop the next generation of extremely fast and energy-efficient electronics.

What You Can Expect in Your New Role
The scope of responsibilities includes research in the field of theoretical physics with a focus on chiral forms of superconductivity and magnetism.
This externally funded research project offers the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D.

Key Requirements

  • Completed graduate degree (Master's/Diploma) in Theoretical Physics.
  • Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to the Ph.D. program in the Department of Physics at Freie Universität Berlin.

Desirable

  • Excellent knowledge of theoretical solid-state physics.

Benefits and Other Advantages

  • Salary in line with the collective agreement for the civil service at the state level (TV-L FU), plus additional one-off annual payment
  • Thirty days of vacation (based on a five-day working week)
  • Office closed on December 24 and December 31
  • Opportunity to participate in University Sports Center courses and the health promotion program
  • Free use of the Freie Universität library system
  • Exclusive deals for products and services through Corporate Benefits

If you are interested in what we have to offer,
then you can send your application materials (resume, academic transcript, research experience and interests, and a letter of recommendation sent directly by the recommender to Prof. Dr. Piet Brouwer: brouwer@physik.fu-berlin.de) to us directly.
