About the job

As VP of Technology (gn) at sofatutor, you will take on the leadership and further development of our Technology Team. You are responsible for the strategic direction of the department, which you shape together with your team and the management, and you have overall responsibility for all technology matters at sofatutor. As part of the leadership team of our Learning Products Teams (Product, Content, Tech), you significantly shape our products and their further development. Your focus is on the development of your leadership team, technical architecture, and process responsibility - in close collaboration with the Engineering Managers, Technical Architects, and Agile Coaches.

100% remote (within Germany) | ⏳ 36 - 40h/week

Your area of responsibility:

  • Overall responsibility for all technology matters at sofatutor

  • Leadership and further development of a tech department with ~40 employees (including Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, Technical PMs)

  • Development and implementation of the tech strategy in close collaboration with management and the leadership team

  • Shared responsibility for the Learning Products Teams (Tech, Product, Content)

  • Establishment of a stable, scalable, and AI-supported delivery process

  • Hands-on sparring for your leadership team and active development of the Engineering Managers

What you bring to the table:

  • Several years of leadership experience in comparable tech structures or experience in guiding executives

  • Proven experience in scaling technical organizations focusing on user-oriented web products

  • Technical understanding - ideally with a background as a developer

  • Experience with modern tech stacks (ideally Ruby, Rails, React, AWS)

  • High interest in AI tools and their integration into product development (e.g., Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, etc.)

  • Strong team focus, clear communication skills, and a pragmatic leadership style

  • Fluent in German (at least C1 level), English as the everyday language in the tech team
