Robotics Mechatronics Engineer / Technician
Über diesen Job
We are looking for a Robotics Mechatronics Engineer with a strong interest in industrial robotics and hands-on hardware development. You may already have professional experience, or you may have built deep practical expertise through personal or non-traditional projects. The ideal candidate is comfortable taking ideas from concept through prototyping to a fully commissioned robotic cell operating in a real production environment.
About MESH
MESH is a robotics startup based in Birr (AG), Switzerland, dedicated to automating rebar construction. We enable the industry to use robots to autonomously handle, place, and join rebar.
Unlike traditional automation lines, construction requires high flexibility to manage altering geometries, varying batch sizes, and construction tolerances. We achieve this adaptability by combining advanced software, computer vision, and robotic manipulation specifically designed for rebar construction.
Our systems are deployed in prefabrication environments, successfully shifting production from manual labor to autonomous systems.
Tasks
As a Robotics Mechatronics Engineer, you will build, maintain, and continuously improve the mechanical and mechatronic systems that power our robotic products.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will work on both new developments and existing deployed products, with a focus on improving reliability, performance, and manufacturability. While system architecture and high-level concepts are supported by senior engineers, you will be responsible for executing, refining, and evolving the hardware that ends up in production.
If you enjoy moving between CAD, workshop, and robot cell — and care deeply about making hardware work reliably in real industrial conditions — this role is for you.
What You’ll Be Working On
You will work closely with robotics and software engineers to co-develop and test robotic systems used for rebar handling and processing, as well as auxiliary equipment within robotic cells.
Your work will include:
- Building, assembling, and testing mechatronic subsystems and robotic end effectors
- Improving existing products with a focus on robustness, serviceability, and long-term performanc
- Iterating designs based on field feedback, production constraints, and testing results
- Integrating actuators, sensors, tooling, and auxiliary equipment into industrial robot cells
- Supporting commissioning, troubleshooting, and upgrades of deployed systems
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and assemble mechatronic prototypes for industrial robotic systems (e.g. end effectors, tooling, fixtures)
- Co-develop robotic cells with robotics engineers, balancing hardware and software solutions
- Prototype, test, and iterate end effectors based on existing concepts and requirements
- Integrate actuators, sensors, robot dress packs, fixturing, and peripheral equipment
- Support robot cell setup, commissioning, and on-site testing
- Provide practical feedback on manufacturability, robustness, and ease of assembly
- Use mechanical CAD for component design and layout planning
- Source, fabricate, and integrate industrial components and equipment
- Develop and maintain PLC-based control systems (e.g. Siemens, Beckhoff, OPC UA)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience as an automation technician or "Automatiker"
- Proven hands-on industrial experience assembling and testing mechatronic or robotic systems (e.g. end effectors, custom tooling, automation equipment)
- Strong practical skills in rapid prototyping (metal workshop, 3D printing, welding, machining
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, including DFM/DFA principles and technical drawings
- Awareness of safety requirements in industrial robotics, including CE conformity and CMSE-related topics
- Working proficiency in English; German and/or French is a strong plus
Benefits
- Possibility for full remote work, hybrid or on-site also possible.
- A challenging role in a dynamic and innovative company.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications. We look forward to reviewing your qualifications and exploring the potential for you to join our team!
