We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.
What You'll Do
As Engineering Manager for Team Phoenix at SAP LeanIX, you will be accountable for leading a cross-functional product engineering team delivering multiple customer-facing products. You will drive execution, foster team growth and well-being, and ensure your team consistently ships high-quality software.
Your responsibilities span delivery, people, and product:
- Lead delivery with ownership — Oversee the end-to-end execution of product initiatives, including the ground-up rebuild of our Survey product with AI-native functionality. You set the standard for quality, velocity, engineering excellence, and an AI-first way of building things without micromanaging.
- Enable your team's autonomy — You know when to step back and trust your engineers to figure things out, and when to step in and provide clear direction. Your team consists of experienced senior and staff engineers.
- Partner with Product Management and UX — Work closely with your Product Manager and UX to shape scope, challenge assumptions, and ensure the team is building the right things following best practices.
- Develop people — Coach and grow a diverse, multicultural team. Deliver timely, specific feedback. Run effective 1:1s. Support individual career development, recognize achievements proactively, evolve team processes, and create space for team members to bring new ideas and grow as contributors.
- Engage technically — Maintain a senior-level skillset in software engineering by contributing to software development without becoming a bottleneck for delivery. You participate meaningfully in architecture and design discussions and are a credible peer to your staff and senior engineers.
- Drive cross-team alignment — Collaborate with peer Engineering Managers, Tribe leadership, and stakeholders across LeanIX and SAP to align on priorities and remove blockers.
What You Bring:
Must-haves:
- 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager leading product engineering teams
- Senior-level engineering background — you can engage confidently in technical conversations with senior and staff engineers
- Hands-on experience with Kotlin, Spring Boot, TypeScript, and Angular — you understand the stack your team works in
- Track record of delivering user-facing SaaS products end-to-end
- Proven ability to work with and guide product managers — not just receive requirements, but actively shape product thinking
- Servant leadership mindset — you create the conditions for your team to do their best work, while maintaining accountability and strategic clarity, and have demonstrated ability to make decisions efficiently
- Experience leading multicultural and geographically diverse teams
- Excellent written and spoken English — you communicate clearly and precisely across all levels of the organization
- Experience building AI/LLM-integrated products
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in enterprise software or B2B SaaS
- German language skills
