Social protection is a human right and a key tool to combat poverty and inequality. One of the aims of the 2030 Agenda is universal access to social protection. Currently, however, more than half of the world’s population has limited or no access.
Germany promotes adaptive social protection systems that increase resilience to individual life risks and collective crises. The Global Programme Global Alliances for Social Protection supports the expansion of these systems to reduce poverty and social inequality, within five focus areas.
The internship will be placed within three focus areas of the programme:
1) Lead the Change for Social Protection: Strengthening public decision-makers’ skills in selected partner countries to effectively collaborate and lead on national social protection reform processes.
2) Digital social protection: openIMIS is an open source software and certified digital public good, that provides versatile solutions to manage health financing and social protection programs, including: cash transfers, health insurance, employment injury insurance, vouchers, and social registries.
3) Funding for adaptive social protection: Supporting selected countries in linking suitable solutions for financing climate risks with social protection programmes, and developing long-term financing strategies (e.g. through the Global Shield Initiative).
