Background
With the project Deepcloud, we will leverage the machine-learning revolution to understand clouds and their role in the climate system. We aim to train a deep learning model on observations and physical models to represent cloud processes across scales from individual turbulent eddies to cloud systems spanning hundreds of kilometers. We will use this fully data-driven model to understand how clouds respond to and influence climate change.
Your Tasks
- Develop, train, and apply the Deepcloud model in collaboration with other team members
- Design the model and training pipeline, building on existing deep learning models in meteorology and climate science
Your Profile
- PhD in computational science, mathematics, physics, or a related subject
- Experience with machine-learning methods, ideally with deep-learning models and transformer architectures
- Basic knowledge in German (approximately equivalent to CEFR level A1 / A2)
- Very good English knowledge (approximately equivalent to CEFR level C1)

- Rigor in coding and scientific practice
