Working student: Physics-Based Circuit-Compatible SPICE model for Ferroelectric Tunnel Junction

Über diesen Job

    Fraunhofer-Institut für Photonische Mikrosysteme IPMS

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft ( www.fraunhofer.com ) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

Working student: Physics-Based Circuit-Compatible SPICE model for Ferroelectric Tunnel Junction

Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.

The development of new components and integration concepts for semiconductor devices with a wide range of applications is an important field of research at the Center Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT) of the Fraunhofer IPMS. One research focus is on the development of non-volatile memory technologies based on ferroelectric hafnium oxide. These are used beyond traditional storage applications, including AI applications. To design a full memory array and use it for AI applications, an effective ferroelectric device model is needed. Students will work with our teams to develop a SPICE model for the Ferroelectric Tunnel Junction (FTJ). Further, it will be programmed with Verilog-A language and integrated with Spectra EDA.

    Aufgabenbeschreibung:

    • Ferroelectric tunnel junction models review: Conduct an in-depth review of the various ferroelectric tunnel junction such as ferroelectric and magnetoresistive tunnel junction models, focusing on their theoretical foundations and practical applications.
    • Compact/physics-based MTJ modeling: Develop compact and physics-based models for the MTJ, ensuring accurate representation of its electrical and magnetic behavior.
    • Fitting parameter extraction: Extract the fitting parameters of the MTJ model using experimental measurement data, ensuring alignment with physical characteristics.
    • Verilog-A MTJ model implementation: Implement the MTJ model using Verilog-A, focusing on precision and compatibility with circuit simulators.
    • MTJ model integration with Cadence Virtuoso: Integrate the MTJ model into Cadence Virtuoso for circuit-level simulations, ensuring seamless compatibility and performance.
    • Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation for the MTJ modeling process, including methodologies, results, and integration workflows.

    Erwartete Qualifikationen:

    • Academic Background: You have completed a Bachelor's degree and are ready to pursue a Master's or Diploma degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Physics, Material Sciences, or a related field. You possess a strong foundation in semiconductor device physics and modeling.
    • Technical Skills: You have moderate programming skills and possess knowledge of Verilog-A, Python, or MATLAB, with proficiency in these languages being a plus.
    • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: You demonstrate a structured and analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to quickly grasp new technical and scientific concepts.
    • Communication and Teamwork: You have strong communication skills, assertiveness, and the ability to work collaboratively in an international research environment.
    • Presentation and Documentation Skills: You are capable of documenting and presenting technical and scientific findings clearly and effectively.
    • Language Skills: You have good written and spoken English skills, enabling effective collaboration and communication within an international team.
