The Facility for Data Sciences and Biostatistics (Dr. Juliane Liepe) invites applications for a Scientific IT Specialist / Research Software Engineer (f/m/d)
Key tasks
- Maintain IT systems and research computing environments.
- Support and optimise data analysis workflows and pipelines.
- Install/configure scientific software.
- Assist researchers with code, HPC usage, and reproducible practices.
- Provide on-site training and contribute to best practices in research software.
Requirements
- Degree (MSc/PhD) in CS, bioinformatics, data science, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong programming skills (Python/R/Bash) and Linux.
- Experience with workflows, version control (Git), and scientific computing.
- Problem-solving mindset and good communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
Desired Skills
- HPC, containers (Docker/Singularity), workflow tools (Snakemake/Nextflow), cloud, CI/CD, database systems and data storage solutions.

Position details
The position is initially limited to two years, although permanent employment thereafter is not ruled out. Remuneration is based on the TVöD Bund (German federal civil service pay scale), depending on qualifications and professional experience. In addition, public sector social benefits apply.
