We are looking to fill the position of a Scientific Project Staff/Doctoral student in Linguistics
Your Responsibilities:
Writing a PhD thesis in linguistics on a topic closely related to the FWF START project "The emotions we speak: predicting language change from speakers’ emotional attitudes to grammatical structures using formal linguistic tools”
Independent as well as collaborative research in connection with the FWF START project
Empirical data collection and analysis, independently and as part of the project team
Publication activities related to the FWF START research project
Your Profile:
- Completed diploma or master’s degree in psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics or theoretical linguistics
- Excellent knowledge of Ukrainian (required); knowledge of another Slavic language (esp. Polish) is a plus
- Experience in empirical data collection and analysis and/or experience working with corpora (strongly preferred)
- Willingness to engage in highly interdisciplinary work and to learn the research methods of the disciplines involved
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken German and English
- Some background in formal and/or quantitative approaches to grammar
- Very good IT skills and experience in working with databases
- Enjoyment of scientific work
- Independent work style and a high level of initiative-taking
- Excellent team-building and organizational skills

- Brief proposal of a possible topic for a dissertation, with demonstration of flexibility in adapting the topic to that of the project
- Proof of completion of the course of study required in the call for applications
- Proof of the language skills, required in the curriculum, if the doctoral program is not completed in the first language (please note that an admission is required). For a doctorate in Linguistics (within the doctoral programme at the Faculty of Humanities) a language certificate in German or English on a C1 Level (CEFR C1) is required.

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 52,007.20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
