Responsibilities
- Experimental tasks in the AtomDensityMap project within an international consortium (TU Graz, Montanuniversität Leoben, FHI Berlin, and Forschungszentrum Jülich).
- Synthesise and characterise 2D (vdW) materials (e.g., graphene and MoS2) with tailored point defects at Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL).
- Conduct high-end STEM, 4D-STEM, and spectroscopy measurements at TU Graz to map defect structures and charge redistributions.
- Refine and optimise measurement strategies in close collaboration with simulation and modelling partners.
- Present research results at international conferences and publish findings in leading scientific journals.
- Prepare and complete a PhD thesis.
Admission Requirements
- Completed Master’s degree (Diploma/MSc) in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or an equivalent discipline.
Desired Qualification
- Strong interest in electron microscopy, diffraction/phase retrieval concepts, and materials synthesis.
- Motivation to learn modern experimental methods and to analyze complex, multimodal STEM datasets using Python.
- Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
- Independent, reliable working style and motivation to work in an interdisciplinary, multi-institution team.

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 52,865.40 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
