Über diesen Job
Location: Hamburg, Germany
Employment: Full-time, permanent
Work model: Hybrid (approximately 1 day/week home office; fully remote is not possible)
Muxon is a small, globally active recruitment agency and is conducting this search on behalf of our partner, an innovative deep-tech company developing next-generation active muon imaging technologies for industrial, scientific and medical applications.
Combining particle physics, laser-plasma acceleration, advanced detector systems and artificial intelligence, the company is developing solutions for high-resolution imaging and automated inspection, with applications across industries such as aerospace, energy, security and healthcare.
The company is expanding its research and engineering capabilities and is looking for postdoctoral researchers from different scientific and technical backgrounds to join its international, interdisciplinary team.
Areas of Research & Development
The opportunities cover three interconnected areas:
Accelerator & Beamline Physics
Particle capture and transport, beam optics, radiation shielding, magnet engineering and simulation-based optimisation of accelerator systems.
Laser-Plasma Acceleration & Computational Physics
Laser-plasma accelerator development, particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, computational modelling, numerical optimisation and high-performance computing.
Scientific Machine Learning & Advanced Imaging
Tomographic reconstruction, particle tracking, physics-informed machine learning, uncertainty quantification and advanced computational imaging.
Requirements
Specific requirements naturally vary depending on the research area and position. However, the common baseline is:
- A PhD in Physics, Engineering, Computational Science or a closely related discipline.
- At least one year of postdoctoral research experience in a relevant scientific or technical field.
- A strong academic or research background, with practical experience related to at least one of the areas described above.
- The ability to approach complex scientific and technical challenges with analytical thinking and an independent, hands-on mindset.
- Full professional proficiency in English.
- Willingness to relocate to Germany and work in a primarily on-site environment, with approximately one day of home office per week.
Candidates are not expected to cover all the research areas. We welcome specialists with different backgrounds whose expertise aligns with one or more of the company's research and development activities.
Benefits
- Technical Ownership: Autonomy and responsibility in a small, specialised team, with the opportunity to shape core technologies.
- Cutting-Edge Infrastructure: Access to advanced particle beamlines, high-performance computing resources and specialised simulation environments.
- Real-World Impact: The opportunity to translate scientific research into practical hardware and commercially relevant technologies.
- Research Network: Collaboration with leading research institutions and industry partners.
- Equity Participation: A substantial equity package and a direct stake in the company's long-term success.
- Relocation Support: Assistance with international relocation and visa procedures if needed.
- 30 days of annual leave and a permanent employment contract.
Working Environment
The company combines scientific ambition with an entrepreneurial, hands-on approach. Its small, interdisciplinary teams value independent thinking, open communication, rapid experimentation and shared responsibility.
