Process Engineer R&D Pyrometallurgy (m/f/d)

Über diesen Job

As part of our R&D team, you will contribute to the further development of innovative pyrometallurgical processes and technologies. In this role, you will work closely with production and international stakeholders to improve process performance, support strategic projects, and help drive Aurubis' ambition to become the world's most sustainable non-ferrous metals company.

To strengthen our team in Hamburg, we are looking for you to develop innovative pyrometallurgical technologies, transfer new ideas into industrial applications, and actively help shape Aurubis’ sustainable future.

Your Tasks

  • You will develop and optimize pyrometallurgical processes and support their successful implementation in industrial operations.
  • You will apply advanced metallurgical, thermodynamic, and mathematical methods to improve process performance and strengthen Aurubis’ competitiveness.
  • You will create, validate, and further develop process models and simulations to support innovation projects and investment decisions.
  • You will collaborate with production and cross-functional stakeholders to translate research findings into practical and sustainable process solutions.
  • You will contribute to strategically important R&D projects and support the development of future technologies for metal extraction and recycling.
  • You will build, share, and expand technical knowledge across the organization and contribute to the development of metallurgical expertise within the Aurubis Group.

Your Profile

  • You hold a university degree in Process Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • You have first professional experience and a strong interest in industrial process development and optimization; a PhD is considered an advantage.
  • You possess solid knowledge of thermodynamics and an understanding of pyro-, hydro-, or electrometallurgical processes and/or recycling technologies.
  • You have experience with process modelling, simulation, advanced analytics, or related analytical methods and enjoy solving complex technical challenges.
  • You are familiar with engineering and thermodynamic software tools such as FactSage, HSC Chemistry, METSIM, COMSOL, or similar systems; programming skills in Python or comparable tools are an advantage.
  • You combine strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and intercultural awareness with very good English language skills; German language skills are beneficial.

Your Benefits

  • Working in a forward-looking industry and for a sustainable future: our metals are essential for megatrends such as digitalization and the energy transition.
  • More than fair pay: thanks to the chemical industry pay scale, you can count on a top salary. You will also receive a vacation and Christmas bonus on top.
  • We also offer you a company pension scheme and performance-related pay.
  • Combine your professional and private life through mobile and flexible working within Germany. You can work mobile up to 3 days a week. Your working week is based on 37.5 hours.
  • Relaxation is important to us! With us, you get 30 days of vacation and up to three additional days off.
  • Benefit from our company health promotion program. We have a company doctor on site and our preventive health check-ups, vaccinations and physiotherapy services ensure that you stay fit.
  • Health at every stage of life: Use our confidential online platform with scientifically grounded resources covering health, family, mental health, and key life stages. Videos, courses, and expert sessions are available to you flexibly and anonymously.
  • With Hansefit, the most diverse company sports network in Germany, we offer you access to thousands of sports and health facilities - be it a gym, a sports course or a sauna. Aurubis subsidizes the Hansefit membership.
  • Enjoy a variety of meals in our company canteen.
  • We accompany and support you in your professional and personal development. Use our Digital Learning Academy and benefit from a variety of exciting learning opportunities.
  • Your future is a fixed part of our program: in regular employee appraisals, we determine your next steps together.
