Doctoral researcher (f/m/d) – Ultrafast Optics / X-ray Metrology
26. Januar 2026
The Ultrafast Optics group at Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany invites applications for the following opening: Doctoral researcher (f/m/d) – Ultrafast Optics / X-ray Metrology.
Project background:
Leibniz Universität Hannover is part of the COMBOFEL research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). One of the main objectives is to implement XUV pump - XUV probe experiments at the free-electron-laser FLASH at DESY in Hamburg, Germany. In particular, high-order harmonic generation is used to produce XUV
continua for spectroscopic applications.
Job description:
The objective of this project is experimental investigations in non-linear optics and strong field physics. This includes the setup of an attosecond beamline and experiments in transient absorption spectroscopy. The work involves handling of intense femtosecond laser light, beamline optics, vacuum engineering, as well as signal processing and analysis.
The position:
We are looking for a qualified personality in the field of experimental non-linear optics, X-ray physics and/or ultrafast optics. This includes e.g. the fields of sources of coherent X-rays and state-of-the-art detectors. The willingness to cooperate scientifically with other research groups (FLASH at DESY) in physics and engineering is assumed. The position is located in the Quantum Optics Institute in the Ultrafast Laser Group of
Uwe Morgner
and
Milutin Kovacev
. It is limited to three years.
Your profile:
MSc in Physics or Electrical Engineering with experience in laser science and/or x-ray physics as well as excellent scientific knowledge including analytical and experimental skills. Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organizations in Germany. Applicants should provide a motivation letter, a curriculum vitae and a statement of research interests. The review of incoming applications will start immediately and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. We suggest applying by September 2025 to ensure full consideration.
For further information please contact Prof. Milutin Kovacev +49-511-762-5286 (Email: kovacev@iqo.uni-hannover.de)
