Über diesen Job

The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is one of Europe’s largest cancer research centers. "Research for a life without cancer" is the mission of our world-class scientists and all our team members.

The DKFZ is a place where the brightest minds pursue bold ideas and seek answers to pioneering scientific questions through collaboration, innovation, and exploration across many disciplines. We provide a dynamic environment which empowers excellence with state-of-the-art technologies, cutting edge infrastructure, and a global scientific network.

Contribute your knowledge, vision, and dedication to create a space where scientific discovery in cancer research is transformed into benefits for human health.

For an interdisciplinary collaboration between the groups of Prof. Dr. Jochen Utikal (Clinical Cooperation Unit Dermato-Oncology at University Medical Center Mannheim) and Prof. Dr. Michaela Frye (Division of Mechanisms Regulating Gene Expression, DKFZ Heidelberg), we are seeking a

Our research aims to uncover how RNA modifications regulate gene expression pathways and how these processes vary across cell types, sexes, and in response to immunotherapy. By integrating molecular biology with advanced computational approaches, we investigate how RNA regulation drives skin cancer progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher (computational focus). Starting date is flexible but can be as early as August 2026. The position is fully funded for one year in the first instance, and the project’s funding is secured in principle for three years.

Your Tasks

In this role, you will play a central part in developing and applying cutting-edge computational methods to analyze complex datasets. A major focus will be the integration of nanopore-based direct RNA modification sequencing with multi-omics data, including spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Your work will contribute to building comprehensive analytical frameworks to understand how RNA modifications influence tumor heterogeneity and treatment response.

You will be based at the DKFZ in Heidelberg and work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, closely interacting with molecular biologists, clinicians, and computational scientists.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to apply advanced computational and bioinformatics methods to cutting-edge questions at the interface of RNA biology, cancer research, and precision medicine.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, or a related field; PhD preferred
  • Strong background in transcriptomics or other omics data analysis (R, Python, or similar)
  • Interest in RNA biology, cancer, and molecular mechanisms of gene regulation
  • Enthusiastic, independent, and collaborative working style
  • Motivation to learn and adapt to scientific challenges and become a positive member of the team

We Offer

Excellent framework conditions: state-of-the-art equipment and opportunities for international networking at the highest level

30 days of vacation per year

Flexible working hours

Remuneration according to TV-L incl. occupational pension plan and capital-forming payments

Possibility of mobile work and part-time work

Family-friendly working environment

Sustainable travel to work: subsidized Germany job ticket

Unleash your full potential: targeted offers for your personal development to further develop your talents

Our Corporate Health Management Program offers a holistic approach to your well-being

Are you interested?

Then become part of the DKFZ and join us in contributing to a life without cancer!

Duration: The position is initially limited to 1 year with the possibility of prolongation.
Application Deadline: 15.05.2026

Applications by e-mail cannot be accepted.
Please also note that we cannot return applications submitted by post.

We are convinced that an innovative research and working environment thrives on the diversity of its employees. Therefore, we welcome applications from talented people, regardless of gender, cultural background, nationality, ethnicity, sexual identity, physical ability, religion and age. People with severe disabilities are given preference if they have the same aptitude.

Notice: We are subject to the regulations of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG). Therefore, all our employees must provide proof of immunity against measles.
