to be filled as soon as possible. The professorship will be based at the Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim (a public-law foundation of the state of Baden-Württemberg, director: Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg, commercial director: Andreas-W. Möller).
The Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) stands for internationally outstanding research and pioneering treatment concepts in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Addiction Medicine. The special characteristic of the institute is its dual function as a health care and research institution. In the research area, this structure in particular enables the direct implementation of a translational research approach from basic research to clinical application.
The professorship for "Gerontopsychiatry” aims to advance innovative therapeutic and preventive interventions in the field of gerontopsychiatry using modern translational methods. This includes disease-modifying therapies for neurodegenerative diseases, the research and establishment of biomarkers, and the generation of preventive, non-pharmacological strategies and modular approaches in (psycho)therapy.
The professorship represents the field in research and teaching and is integrated into the ongoing research priorities of the CIMH and the Medical Faculty Mannheim. Successful applicants should have a research profile that focuses on translational research in the field of geriatric psychiatry and psychotherapy and thus offers opportunities for cooperation projects with clinics and researchers at a high international level. Applicants should have a proven track record of outstanding scientific achievements, successful third-party funding acquisition, and international research experience in the field. The future holder of the position is expected to competently and strategically develop the Department of Gerontopsychiatry and actively engage in open science practices, e.g. open access publications, use of open data, and promotion of reproducible research.
Requirements for the W3-Professorship for "Gerontopsychiatry” additionally include:
- A completed university degree in Medicine
- Board certification in psychiatry and psychotherapy
- A qualified doctorate in the relevant field as well as additional scientific achievements according to § 47 (2) of the State Higher Education Act of Baden-Württemberg, which are proven by a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or habilitation- equivalent achievements
- International recognition as a scientist in the field of translational research in gerontopsychiatry
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is usually proven by experience in teaching
- Experience in research management and the acquisition of third-party funding
In addition, didactic competence as well as cooperation and leadership skills are expected.
The professorship is jointly appointed by Heidelberg University and the Central Institute of Mental Health Mannheim in the ‘Jülich Model’. The position is permanent. Subject to the decision of the supervisory board, the holder of the professorship will be appointed medical director of a new clinic for Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Central Institute of Mental Health.
It is therefore intended to transfer the existing Department of Geriatric Psychiatry of the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy into the structure of an independent clinic. The new clinic will be part of the Center for Adult Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (director: Prof. Dr. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg).
