Job description
Research areas of interest are physical phenomena relevant to compressible flows, including multiphase flow, gas dynamics, fluid‑structure interaction, aero‑acoustics, or related topics, investigated with numerical, experimental, or combined methods.
The University Professorship (W3) "Compressible Flows” provides a fundamental ‑ research ‑ oriented focus alongside the applied research at the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery (ITS) in the field of turbomachinery and its use in energy technology and aviation.
As a member of the collegial management team of the Institute , the selected candidate is expected to drive the strategic development of the existing research portfolio within the context of the energy transition. In doing so, the future holder of the position will be visible with his/her own independent, internationally recognized research program. The professor will also contribute to the industry collaborations already established at ITS, for example within the Rolls‑Royce University Technology Center (UTC).
University tasks with a teaching obligation of 9 hours per week per semester are associated with the position. Within this obligation, undergraduate courses in the field of thermofluid dynamics for the Bachelor programs Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (International) shall be delivered in English and, in the medium term, also in German. In addition, the professor is expected to offer research-oriented advanced courses in the aforementioned bachelor's programs as well as in the master's programs of the KIT Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Personal qualification
Your research profile includes primarily numerical, but also experimental or theoretical methods for describing single ‑ and two ‑ phase compressible flows. Within the context of thermal fluid machines, you can provide future-oriented links to research activities at KIT, particularly at ITS.
We are looking for a candidate with an internationally established scientific record. A habilitation or equivalent achievement (developed research profile, teaching experience) is required. We expect experience in teaching as well as in the execution and leadership of research projects. International research experience and collaboration with industrial partners are advantageous.
Experience in obtaining public third-party funding is required. In addition, leadership experience and team ‑ work skills are expected. We are seeking researchers who are enthusiastic about teaching. A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, for example within Collaborative Research Centers, Excellence Clusters, or similar initiatives, is required. We expect participation in academic self‑governance.
Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 47 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).
