Job description
The professorship is associated with the collegial position Director of the Institute of Highway and Railroad Engineering (ISE).
In teaching, you will represent the entire field of railway engineering, with particular emphasis on construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure as well as the planning and operation of the rail system as a whole.
In research and innovation, you have a proven track record and establish focal areas in one or more relevant topics within the aforementioned fields. In addition, you are actively involved in the corresponding professional and scientific committees.
We expect you to actively engage in the diverse opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation at KIT, in particular within the KIT Department of Civil Engineering, Geo- and Environmental Sciences and the KIT Mobility Systems Center.
You will contribute to teaching with strong didactic competence, offering research-oriented and application-based courses in German- and English-taught degree programs, especially in Civil Engineering and in the Master’s program "Mobility and Infrastructure”. Furthermore, you will contribute your expertise and practical experience to the qualification and mentoring of early-career researchers.
You will assume general university duties, with a teaching load of 9 contact hours per week (SWS).

Personal qualification
We are seeking a recognized and inspiring academic personality in the field of railway engineering. Experience in urban rail transport systems is an advantage but not a requirement.
Active participation in academic self-governance is considered an integral part of the position, as is interdisciplinary collaboration and the successful acquisition of third-party funding for research and innovation. Teaching experience and demonstrated pedagogical competence are expected, typically evidenced by a habilitation or an equivalent qualification, which may also have been obtained outside the university system.
The statutory requirements for appointment apply in accordance with Section 14 (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Section 47 of the Baden-Württemberg Higher Education Act.
